Lead Quality Standards

How we score, filter, and guarantee the quality of every lead delivered to painting contractors.

Last updated: January 1, 2025

1. What Is a Qualifying Lead

A qualifying lead is a homeowner project request that meets all of the following minimum requirements before being distributed to painting contractors:

  • Valid contact information: The request includes a verifiable phone number and email address associated with a real person.
  • Geographic validity: The project address or zip code falls within a service area covered by active Red Brush contractors.
  • Project completeness: The request includes sufficient information to identify a genuine painting project — including project type and a description that indicates real intent to hire.
  • Intent signals: The request demonstrates behavioral signals consistent with a homeowner actively seeking contractor quotes — such as selecting a timeline, providing a budget range, or describing the project in specific detail.
  • Uniqueness: The request is not a duplicate of a submission from the same homeowner within the prior thirty (30) day window.

Requests that meet these requirements are assigned a quality score before distribution. Only requests that achieve a qualifying score are released to contractors.

2. Lead Scoring Methodology

Every homeowner request submitted through the Red Brush platform is evaluated using a multi-factor scoring model before distribution. Requests are assigned a score of A, B, or C based on the following criteria:

  • Contact quality (A/B/C): Whether the provided phone number and email pass validation checks and are associated with a real, reachable person.
  • Project specificity (A/B/C): The level of detail provided in the project description. Requests that specify room count, square footage, surface type, or other concrete details score higher than vague submissions.
  • Timeline urgency (A/B): Requests indicating an immediate or near-term timeline score higher than requests indicating no defined timeline.
  • Platform behavior (A/B): Behavioral indicators such as time spent on the form, device type, and submission pattern are evaluated for consistency with genuine homeowner intent.

Distribution threshold: Only requests scoring A or B are distributed to contractors. C-scored requests are held for manual review. Requests that fail review are discarded and never charged to contractors.

3. Leads That Are Not Distributed

The following categories of requests are filtered out before distribution and are never charged to contractors:

  • Submissions with invalid, disconnected, or undeliverable phone numbers or email addresses
  • Test or bot submissions identified by behavioral analysis or pattern detection
  • Duplicate submissions from the same homeowner within a thirty (30) day window
  • Requests for services outside the supported project categories (e.g., non-painting services submitted through painting forms)
  • Requests from geographic areas with no active contractors in the Red Brush network
  • Requests that score C on our quality model and do not pass manual review
  • Requests flagged for unusual submission patterns consistent with form abuse or fraudulent activity

4. The 4-Contractor Cap

Every lead distributed through the Red Brush platform is sent to a maximum of four (4) painting contractors. This is an absolute contractual and technical cap with no exceptions.

The 4-contractor cap is enforced at the point of distribution through our lead routing system. Once a lead has been delivered to four contractors, it is closed and cannot be assigned to additional recipients regardless of circumstances.

The following are explicitly prohibited and not available under any circumstance:

  • Paid upgrades that allow a lead to be sent to additional contractors beyond the cap
  • Priority placement that gives one contractor exclusive or first-notification access at the expense of the cap
  • Re-opening of a closed lead for distribution to new contractors

This cap exists to ensure that contractors on our platform compete on quality and responsiveness — not on who outbids others for lead access.

5. No Reselling or Recycling Policy

Red Brush maintains a strict policy against reselling, repackaging, or redistributing leads after initial delivery. Every lead distributed through our platform is a fresh request from a homeowner who submitted their information within the current active window.

Red Brush explicitly prohibits the following practices:

  • Reselling: Selling lead data to third-party platforms, aggregators, or brokers after initial distribution
  • Recycling: Re-distributing a previously delivered lead — in whole or in part — to new contractors at a later date
  • Repackaging: Combining or rebranding lead data and distributing it under a different product or offering

A lead is considered "fresh" if it was submitted by the homeowner within the prior seventy-two (72) hours and has not previously been distributed to any contractor. Leads that do not meet this standard are discarded rather than delivered.

6. Lead Dispute Process

If you believe a lead delivered to your account does not meet Red Brush's quality standards, you may submit a dispute using the following process:

  • Step 1 — Submission window: Disputes must be submitted within five (5) business days of lead delivery. Disputes submitted outside this window will not be reviewed.
  • Step 2 — Submit your dispute: Email support@redbrushpainting.com with the subject line "Lead Dispute — [Lead ID]." Include the lead ID, delivery date and time, and a clear description of the quality issue with any supporting documentation.
  • Step 3 — Review: Our quality team will review your dispute within five (5) business days of receipt. We may contact you for additional information during the review period.
  • Step 4 — Outcome: You will receive written notification of the dispute outcome — either a credit issuance, a denial with explanation, or escalation for further review.

Credits issued as a result of upheld disputes are applied to your account within two (2) business days of the decision and will be applied against your next billing cycle.

7. Grounds for a Valid Dispute

The following conditions constitute valid grounds for a lead dispute. Disputes submitted on grounds not listed below may be denied at Red Brush's discretion:

  • The phone number provided in the lead is disconnected, out of service, or does not reach the homeowner after three (3) documented contact attempts
  • The homeowner confirms in writing or verbally that they did not submit a request through Red Brush
  • The lead is a confirmed duplicate of a lead received within the prior thirty (30) day window for the same homeowner and project
  • The project location falls outside the contractor's defined service area and the mismatch is attributable to a platform routing error rather than a recent change in service area settings
  • The lead contains materially false or fabricated information that renders it non-actionable

The following do not constitute valid grounds for dispute: homeowner choosing not to respond, homeowner hiring a different contractor, homeowner deciding not to proceed with the project, or dissatisfaction with the scope or budget of the project as described.

8. Continuous Quality Improvement

Red Brush uses contractor feedback and lead outcome data as a core input in our ongoing effort to improve lead quality. After each lead, contractors are encouraged to provide outcome data — whether the homeowner was reached, whether a quote was provided, and whether the job was awarded.

This data is used to:

  • Refine our A/B/C scoring model by identifying patterns in high- and low-quality submissions
  • Improve geographic and project-type matching accuracy over time
  • Identify and suppress homeowner submission sources that consistently produce low-quality leads
  • Provide contractors with performance insights to help improve their own conversion rates

We are committed to transparency in this process. When significant changes to our scoring methodology result in changes to lead volume or eligibility criteria, we will communicate those changes to active contractors in advance.

9. Updates to These Standards

Red Brush may update these Lead Quality Standards as our platform evolves, as market conditions change, or as we identify opportunities to improve lead quality and contractor outcomes. When updates materially affect lead eligibility criteria, dispute grounds, or the distribution cap, we will notify active contractors by email at least fourteen (14) days before the changes take effect.

The current version of these standards, along with the effective date, will always be available at redbrushpainting.com/legal. Questions about how a specific update may affect your account can be directed to support@redbrushpainting.com.
